Three years since we released our Van Build video.

Three years since we released our Van Build video. 60K views later and it feels pretty apt spending the day grafting on our next bonkers project: a 40ft shipping container conversion.

Back in 2020 we completed the conversion of a 25-year-old Toyota Hiace van. 'Suzi' went on to be our home-on-wheels amid a global pandemic.

Turns out 4m² can be a bedroom, kitchen, living room and videography studio all at once (just about)

Broaden's feeling a little bit rejuvenated after a weekend with old friends from Sydney and the general pick-me-up of spring. Longer days and more light mean better moods!

Sad to have missed 'The Big One' in London, with scenes of activism which are joyful, hopeful, desperate and heart-wrenching all at once. Thank you to our friends and collaborators who've been down there with @extinctionrebellion @just.stopoil and co, campaigning for people and planet. 🌍 🌎 🌏

Despite weeks of groundwork prep and double-triple checking our measurements, it was still nail-biting watching four tonnes of steel be lowered on a 20-metre crane arm 😬

But it's here! And the sun came along to cheer us on 🌞

So far this process of constructing and DIYing and giving things a go has been utterly rewarding and empowering too. It's so easy to feel hopeless or stuck these days, trapped in the machine of commercialisation, office-based work and on-grid living, so the physical graft and the vision of a sustainable space we want to make ourselves is a welcome tonic.

After 10+ years carrying cargo on the ocean, this container's got a new home 🌿

Go hardcore or go home 🤟 Five days, four tonnes of gravel, sixty metres of electrical cable, one tireless dad and countless cups of tea later – the foundations are in!

This videography office build should be as low-impact as possible. That's why we wanted to avoid concrete foundations and instead opted for compacted MOT hardcore.

We also managed to repurpose a ton and a half of slate, a pallet of yucky old concrete bricks, and 50 metres of weed surpressant that was already on site.

10 days til the container is delivered! 🏗

Introducing the Broaden Studio Build!

Over the coming months we'll be installing and converting a 40ft shipping container into a custom videography studio 🤩

It's a bit of a dream-come-true, having loved building our van Suzi back in 2019 (sure we'll come to regret saying that when we're knee-deep in DIY soon...)

First step: clearing vegetation, flattening the site, and installing underground water and power, all with thanks to our third crew member, Bryony's dad Bruford.
